Winners of the World Championship in Weightlifting

Alwine

Suleymanoglu won three consecutive gold medals at the Olympic Games. His father was a zinc miner and bus driver. At age nine, he began training for weightlifting and won two gold medals at the World Junior Weightlifting Championships.

Nurcan Taylan

Nurcan Taylan was born on 29 October 1983 in Ankara, Turkey. She is a Turkish weightlifting champion and an Olympic medallist. She holds six world and European records and has tied two more. However, in November 2011, she was banned from weightlifting for two years after testing positive for a banned anabolic steroid.

The Olympic gold medalist discovered weightlifting at the age of 11 and quickly rose to prominence. By the age of fifteen, she had already broken six European and two World records. Her performance at the 2004 Athens Olympics earned her a gold medal. In the same year, she broke the world record in the 48 kg category. Despite the setback, Taylan is still in great shape and is ready to defend her title at the World Championship.
